Minecraft Music Discs: Creator, Precipice, Tears and Lava Chicken
Find Creator, Precipice, Tears and Lava Chicken, understand the right loot source or killing blow, and build a jukebox corner for your collection. Includes Java and Bedrock version differences.
Project by MineBrush Editorial · Published · Updated
Want Creator, Precipice, Tears or Lava Chicken for your base? Each comes from a different collection task. This guide covers the five music discs added with Tricky Trials and the 2025 summer releases: where to look, which action matters, and how to turn your finds into a listening corner. These are vanilla items in the released versions below; no addon or music download is required.
Find your disc · Trial Chambers route · Tears · Lava Chicken · Make and use a jukebox · Collection projects · Missing disc or sound
Choose a collection task
- Precipice — Aaron Cherof: a rare reward from a standard Vault. Available from Java 1.21 and Bedrock 1.21.
- Creator — Lena Raine: a rare reward from an Ominous Vault. Same minimum versions as Precipice.
- Creator (Music Box) — Lena Raine: rarely found in decorated pots broken inside Trial Chambers. This is a separate disc from Creator, not a jukebox setting.
- Tears — Amos Roddy: kill a ghast with a fireball deflected by a player. Added in Java 1.21.6 and Bedrock 1.21.90.
- Lava Chicken — Hyper Potions: defeat a baby zombie riding a chicken. Added in Java 1.21.7 and Bedrock 1.21.93.
These are the first stable versions containing these particular discs, not a recommendation to downgrade. Use your supported current release. This is a focused collection guide for these five additions, not a complete catalogue of every older Minecraft disc.
Collect the three Trial Chambers discs on one expedition
Separate the containers before spending keys: the ordinary Vault, the Ominous Vault and a decorated pot are three different sources. A Trial Spawner starts a fight and gives rewards; it is not the Vault you unlock with a key. Mojang lists the three disc locations in the Java 1.21 notes and the Bedrock 1.21 notes.
- Prepare a return route. Take food, armour, a shield, spare tools and blocks. Note the chamber entrance coordinates and leave inventory space for rewards. A chest at your staging point gives you somewhere to put a rare disc before continuing combat.
- Start with ordinary trials. Use the Trial Keys you earn on standard Vaults while searching for Precipice. Treat the disc as a possible reward, not a guaranteed payment for each key.
- Inspect the decorated pots in cleared rooms. Break the chamber pots when looking for Creator (Music Box), then collect the dropped items. Crafting a pot at home does not reproduce this structure loot.
- Take on ominous trials when equipped for the harder encounter. This route uses Ominous Trial Keys and Ominous Vaults for Creator. An ordinary key is not a substitute.
- Bank a rare find before taking another risk. Return the disc to your staging chest or base, then continue searching for the missing title.
For a group expedition, agree where found discs will be stored before entering. A shared chest labelled with the five titles makes it easy to see what is missing. Keep duplicate finds for another listening room or another player's collection rather than assuming a duplicate unlocks a new song.
New to the structure? Start with our Tricky Trials guide for the wider challenge loop, equipment and rewards.
Tears: return the ghast's fireball
The important condition is the finishing hit from a player-deflected fireball. Simply shooting a ghast with a bow is not the collection method. This is documented in Java 1.21.6 and Bedrock 1.21.90.
- Choose a fighting position on solid ground with room to move and cover nearby. Avoid attempting the collection above a lava lake, where retrieving drops becomes difficult.
- Face the hostile ghast and watch the incoming fireball. Attack the fireball to send it back toward the ghast; positioning and timing matter.
- Keep the final blow consistent with that condition. Switching to an arrow for the kill defeats the purpose of this collection attempt.
- Collect the dropped disc before leaving the area and store it somewhere secure.
Tears is a music disc, not the Ghast Tear brewing ingredient. A friendly Happy Ghast is also the wrong mob. Keep your flying mount away from this hunt. Fire Resistance can be useful preparation for the Nether, but it does not make cliffs, explosions or losing your items harmless.
Lava Chicken: defeat the rider, not an ordinary chicken
Look for a baby zombie actually riding a chicken. Defeat that rider while it is a chicken jockey; killing a normal chicken or an unmounted baby zombie is a different action. Move the encounter away from lava or other hazards that could destroy the dropped item, and leave space in your inventory before collecting it.
The release dates are easy to mix up: Java 1.21.7 introduced the disc on Java; Bedrock 1.21.93 added it on Bedrock. The later 1.21.94 hotfix on the same announcement page was not its first appearance. Older announcements saying Bedrock support was still coming are therefore outdated.
For an early Bedrock build with unexpected drops, update before designing a farm around it: 1.21.120 fixed chicken-jockey disc drops from player or tamed-wolf kills. A direct player kill is a straightforward way to keep your attempt understandable. This guide does not promise a jockey spawn rate or a tested farming layout.
Craft a jukebox and play your find
Open a crafting table's 3×3 grid. Place one diamond in the centre and eight wooden planks around it, then take the jukebox from the output slot. You need planks, not logs. A note block is a different block and will not play a collected disc.
- Place the jukebox beside a seat or storage chest where you can easily reach it.
- Hold the music disc and use it on the jukebox: right-click with default mouse controls, or use the interaction control on your device.
- Stay nearby to listen. To change tracks, interact with the occupied jukebox to eject the disc, pick it up and insert another.
- Put the removed disc back in its labelled storage slot so it does not get lost among ordinary expedition loot.
Three useful ways to build around the collection
- A five-disc expedition board: put five item frames above a storage chest, with a sign naming each target and its source. Fill each frame as you collect it. Remove a displayed disc when you want to play it; you do not need two copies to start the project.
- A listening corner: one jukebox, a bench, lighting and a small labelled disc chest make a room players can actually use. Leave the jukebox reachable instead of hiding its interaction face behind decoration.
- A shared adventure reward: make the three Trial Chambers discs the goal of a group trip, then hold a listening session at the base. Choose the next expedition from the missing source: pots, ordinary Vaults or ominous trials.
Why did the disc or sound not appear?
- A Vault gave another reward: the Trial Chambers discs are rare loot. One unsuccessful opening does not mean the feature is disabled.
- The key does not work: check that its type matches the Vault, and that this player has not already claimed that Vault's reward. Waiting for a Trial Spawner cooldown is not the same as resetting your Vault access.
- You got Creator (Music Box), not Creator: those are separate items with different sources. Continue with Ominous Vaults for Creator.
- The ghast dropped no Tears disc: check the version and the killing blow. A normal arrow kill does not meet the reflected-fireball condition.
- The chicken dropped no Lava Chicken: an ordinary chicken is not the target. Check the mounted baby zombie, your game version and the Bedrock fix described above.
- The jukebox is silent: stand nearby, confirm the disc is inserted, then check master volume and the records/jukebox sound category in your edition's audio settings. Test without an audio-changing resource pack if the issue started after installing one.
