Trails & Tales is easiest to revisit when you choose one reason to return. The update launched on June 7, 2023 as Java Edition 1.20 and Bedrock Edition 1.20.0. It added archaeology, trail ruins, cherry and bamboo building sets, armor trims, camels, sniffers, and more—but your first session does not need to cover the entire changelog.
Choose one return route
| If you want… | Start with… | Stop when… |
|---|---|---|
| A discovery trip | A brush and one archaeology destination | You have one documented find or one decorated pot |
| A fresh building style | One cherry or bamboo palette | A room, path, or small structure is finished |
| More identity in an old world | An armor-trim display, camel route, or sniffer habitat | One area is easier to recognize and use |
These are planning routes, not progression requirements. Pick the one that gives your existing world a useful change.
Let archaeology produce one complete story
The 1.20 release added the brush, suspicious sand and suspicious gravel, trail ruins, and pottery sherds. That makes archaeology a slower form of exploration: find a site, work carefully, and preserve the context of one result.
- Choose one goal: locate a trail ruin, learn the brush, or gather pieces for a decorated pot.
- Carry only the supplies you need for that trip and keep a private record of useful coordinates.
- Give the find a home—a labeled chest, shelf, or small museum corner.
- End the session after one complete expedition instead of turning the loot table into homework.
Exact loot, structure placement, and technical values belong to the release notes for the edition you are playing.
Build with one new material language
Trails & Tales added the Cherry Grove and cherry wood set, plus a bamboo wood set. Hanging signs and chiseled bookshelves give those materials practical roles in storage rooms, libraries, paths, and shared spaces.
Choose cherry or bamboo as the main material, combine it with blocks already present in your base, and finish one small area. A restrained palette is easier to judge than a showcase that uses every new block at once.
The release also changed smithing through smithing templates and the Netherite Upgrade path. Before committing rare materials, check the release record for your edition and confirm the recipe in the actual game build. MineBrush did not run that recipe for this package.
Give the world a clearer identity
- Armor trims: choose a shared display or visual theme without confusing a trim with the armor material itself.
- Camels: plan a two-rider trip around a real destination rather than collecting the mob with no route in mind.
- Sniffers: build a habitat first, then observe their ancient-seed loop in your own edition and current build.
This historical guide identifies what shipped in 1.20; it does not promise unchanged behavior in later releases, custom servers, or Realms.
Reopen an older world deliberately
Work from a separate copy of a valued save and label that copy with the edition and version you intend to use. Keep the untouched original outside the experiment. This is a precaution, not proof that every conversion or rollback path is safe.
Do not use this page as a downgrade guide. MineBrush did not open a newer world in 1.20, test cross-version conversion, measure how far new generation begins, or verify a Realm update path.
Keep Java and Bedrock details separate
The launch announcement covers both editions, but the official records use different release labels: Java 1.20 and Bedrock 1.20.0. Shared headline features do not guarantee identical recipes, commands, bug fixes, technical values, or platform behavior.
