MakeUp Ultra Fast is a configurable shader, not one fixed quality preset. Shadows, volumetric clouds, TAA, depth of field, ambient occlusion, water effects, motion blur, bloom, chromatic aberration, and other effects can be selected independently. That makes the setup decision about an effect budget—not a promised frame rate.
Start from the exact 9.5d release record
| Field | Creator-controlled record |
|---|---|
| Release | 9.5d, version ID 4hOlA9Ej, published August 14, 2026 |
| Minecraft tags | 1.12.2 through 1.21.11, plus 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, and 26.2 |
| Shader loaders | Iris and OptiFine |
| Side | Client required; server unsupported |
| Declared dependencies | None on the selected release; a compatible shader loader is still required |
| Release file | MakeUp-UltraFast-9.5d.zip, 400,386 bytes; MineBrush has not acquired or opened it |
| 9.5d change | AMD CAS image sharpening added under advanced post-processing |
The project page describes testing across broad Minecraft, GPU, and operating-system families while explicitly withholding a guarantee for every model. The release tags are creator metadata, not a MineBrush hardware or runtime result.
Choose the loader before choosing effects
| Path | Setup boundary |
|---|---|
| Iris | Use the Iris setup guide to match the exact Minecraft profile, keep the shader ZIP intact, and make changes in MakeUp's own shader menu. |
| OptiFine | The creator recommends leaving OptiFine's native shader options at their defaults; non-default native options can reduce the intended quality. |
Do not move a settings file between Iris and OptiFine and call the results equivalent. Loader builds, shader-menu defaults, driver behavior, and supported options can differ.
Build an effect budget instead of trusting the name
| Effect group | Decision before enabling it | Creator boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Shadows | Choose shadow distance and quality for the scene that matters most | Creator identifies shadows as resource-intensive |
| Depth of field | Decide whether cinematic focus is worth reduced clarity during play | Creator identifies depth of field as resource-intensive |
| Volumetric clouds | Test open terrain and fast camera movement | Optional; no MineBrush cost measurement exists |
| TAA and sharpening | Check thin geometry, motion, text edges, and oversharpening | 9.5d adds AMD CAS; device-specific results are unknown |
| Water reflection/refraction | Test shorelines, underwater visibility, and transparent blocks | Optional; no visual-correctness result exists |
| Bloom, motion blur, chromatic aberration | Enable only if the player accepts the readability and comfort tradeoff | All are optional |
Record a baseline that another player can reproduce
- Record Minecraft, Iris or OptiFine, MakeUp 9.5d, GPU, driver, resolution, render distance, resource packs, and selected preset.
- Use one repeatable route containing open terrain, foliage, water, a cave, weather, and a fast camera turn.
- Start with the expensive or comfort-sensitive effects disabled.
- Capture frame time and visual notes after the route is stable; do not compare a chunk-loading pass with a warmed pass.
- Add one effect group, repeat the same route, and keep only changes whose cost and appearance the player accepts.
This procedure produces a local decision. It does not justify an FPS range, “low-end” label, universal preset recommendation, or cross-device performance promise.
Use the same scenes for visual acceptance
- Daylight lake: water edges, reflections, underwater visibility, and bright-surface clipping.
- Night: torch readability, hostile-mob visibility, auto-exposure, and dark-block detail.
- Cave: shadow noise, held-light behavior if used, and ore readability.
- Nether and End: dimension-specific sky, fog, emissive surfaces, and portal readability.
- Fast motion: TAA history, motion blur, sharpening halos, and foliage shimmer.
Troubleshoot by loader and effect
| Symptom | First useful check |
|---|---|
| The shader is absent from the menu | Exact profile, shader loader, intact ZIP, and shaderpacks folder |
| OptiFine output looks unexpectedly degraded | Restore OptiFine's native shader options to defaults before changing MakeUp settings |
| The scene is slower after tuning | Disable shadows and depth of field first, then retest the same warmed route |
| Edges look soft or haloed | Separate TAA from AMD CAS sharpening and compare each change independently |
| Only one dimension is wrong | Return that dimension's shader options to defaults; do not discard the entire profile first |
