Current creator release: TaCZ 1.1.8-hotfix is a Forge mod for Minecraft Java 1.20.1. The Modrinth release was published May 25, 2026, and its primary file is tacz-1.20.1-1.1.8-hotfix.jar. Creator metadata marks the base mod as required on both client and server.
TaCZ is the base gun system. A TaCZ gun pack is separate content loaded by that system; it is not automatically a Forge mod JAR, and it does not inherit the base mod’s author, version, license, or support status. Get the base mod working first, then add one compatible gun pack.
Build the base tuple before adding gun packs
| TaCZ release | 1.1.8-hotfix |
|---|---|
| Minecraft | Java 1.20.1 |
| Loader | Forge |
| Primary filename | tacz-1.20.1-1.1.8-hotfix.jar |
| File size | 57,465,167 bytes |
| Modrinth version ID | yOVIzIJR |
| Runtime side | Client and server required, per creator project metadata |
The project page describes no mandatory extra mod for a basic TaCZ installation. It separately points to Cloth Config for the data/config customization route. That distinction matters: do not turn a customization tool into an unsupported universal dependency claim, and do not assume a modpack has no additional requirements of its own.
Base mod and gun packs are different layers
The TaCZ base mod provides the system: firearms, shooting and animation behavior, attachments, crafting support, and data/config-driven extension points. Gun packs add content designed for that system. A third-party gun pack may target a particular TaCZ build, use its own format conventions, and carry its own rights and support channel.
For TaCZ 1.1.4 and later, the creator’s documented route is to place a supported gun-pack ZIP in .minecraft/tacz without unpacking it. The reload route is /tacz reload or /reload. Do not put a gun-pack ZIP in the Forge mods folder merely because the base TaCZ file is a JAR.
Older or nonstandard packs may need an update from their own creator. Renaming an archive, repacking it, or changing a folder does not prove compatibility. Treat each gun pack as its own release tuple:
- gun-pack title and creator;
- gun-pack release and download source;
- declared TaCZ and Minecraft compatibility;
- archive format and documented placement;
- license and media permissions;
- multiplayer distribution or server requirements.
Install TaCZ on a clean Forge profile
Before changing TaCZ or any gun pack in a real save, back up the modded world and keep the known-good profile intact.
- Create a separate Minecraft Java 1.20.1 Forge profile.
- Download TaCZ
1.1.8-hotfixfrom the creator-controlled versions page and confirm the filename before moving it. - Place the base TaCZ JAR in the profile’s
modsfolder. - For a dedicated server, install the matching TaCZ base version on the server as well as on joining clients.
- Start once with no third-party gun packs. Reach the menu, open a disposable world, and confirm the base mod is present.
- Exit normally before adding one gun pack through its documented route.
MineBrush has not executed the current JAR. This sequence is a controlled player test, not a “works everywhere” certification. Launcher behavior, Java runtime, other mods, configs, server policy, and third-party packs can change the outcome.
Add one gun pack without mixing failure sources
- Confirm the gun pack explicitly supports your TaCZ/Minecraft line.
- Keep its ZIP intact unless that pack’s creator says otherwise.
- Place the supported gun-pack ZIP in
.minecraft/tacz. - Start the same working base profile and use the documented reload command if appropriate.
- Check whether the expected content appears and whether its models, sounds, recipes, attachments, and animations load.
- On multiplayer, repeat the test only after the server owner confirms the exact server-side base and content policy.
If one pack fails, remove that pack and retest the unchanged base profile. Do not add several gun packs at once: duplicate identifiers, conflicting data, or an outdated pack can make a healthy base mod look broken.
Troubleshoot the layer that actually failed
If Forge reports a missing library, follow the missing-dependency chain guide instead of adding unrelated files.
| Symptom | First isolation step | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Forge stops before the title screen | Remove gun packs, verify Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge, the TaCZ filename, and the first relevant error | A gun-pack reload command can repair a base-mod launch failure |
| Single-player works but the server rejects or disconnects | Compare the exact TaCZ base version on client and server, then review the server mod list and policy | Client-only installation is enough for the current creator-declared route |
| The base mod loads but a gun pack is absent | Check the pack’s compatibility, intact ZIP, location under .minecraft/tacz, and reload result |
Every ZIP belongs in mods |
| Weapons appear with missing models, sounds, or data | Test that gun pack alone and check its own release page and issue tracker | The base TaCZ license or support channel covers third-party content |
| A pack worked before a TaCZ update | Restore the previous tuple in a separate profile and look for a pack update | Repacking the archive makes an older data format current |
| Configuration controls are missing | Review the creator’s Cloth Config guidance for the customization route | Cloth Config is proven mandatory for every basic TaCZ launch |
Use a useful bug report
Capture the Minecraft version, Forge version, exact TaCZ filename, client or dedicated-server topology, and the name/version/source of every gun pack. Reproduce once with the base mod only, then once with the suspected pack. Share the first relevant sanitized error and a short surrounding excerpt rather than an unfiltered log.
Remove account identifiers, session data, tokens, private server addresses, local usernames, and unrelated chat before posting. A gun-pack defect belongs first with that pack’s creator; a reproducible base-mod defect belongs in the TaCZ issue tracker.
Rights and redistribution boundary
The TaCZ repository identifies the code as GPL-3.0 and the assets as CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. The project’s models, textures, sounds, screenshots, and other assets are not automatically reusable under the code license. Third-party gun packs retain their own authorship and terms.
MineBrush should not mirror the TaCZ JAR, gun packs, banners, or screenshots for this article. Link to creator-controlled release pages and keep every third-party pack’s rights record separate.
Performance and compatibility remain test-specific
No MineBrush runtime benchmark exists for TaCZ 1.1.8-hotfix. Weapon count, animation settings, sounds, gun-pack assets, other mods, world state, server hardware, and network conditions can all affect results. Do not promise a frame rate, memory ceiling, server capacity, latency improvement, or universal modpack compatibility.
