Presence Footsteps changes the client soundscape by assigning material-aware footstep sounds to blocks and some entities. It is an audio and immersion mod—not a server mechanic, movement overhaul, or performance guarantee.
For Minecraft 26.2, the current creator record is Presence Footsteps 1.13.3+26.2 for Fabric and Quilt. The exact record requires Fabric API, embeds Kirin, and lists Mine Little Pony as optional.
Use the exact 26.2 file
| Field | Creator-listed value |
|---|---|
| Minecraft | Java Edition 26.2 |
| Version | 1.13.3+26.2 |
| Version ID | 8TkGmrgl |
| Filename | PresenceFootsteps-1.13.3+26.2.jar |
| Loaders | Fabric and Quilt |
| Required | Fabric API |
| Embedded | Kirin |
| Optional | Mine Little Pony |
Open the exact creator version record before installing. Do not pair the 26.2 file with the separate 1.21.11 release simply because both are visible in the project history.
Install on a clean client profile
- Create or copy a Minecraft 26.2 Fabric or Quilt client profile.
- Install the loader's matching Fabric API build.
- Add the Presence Footsteps 1.13.3+26.2 JAR.
- Remove duplicate Presence Footsteps files for other Minecraft lines.
- Launch with normal audio output and no other ambient, reverb, or footstep mod for the first pass.
- Walk across a small set of known vanilla blocks, then save, close, and relaunch.
Kirin is embedded in the exact record. Do not add a second Kirin JAR unless current creator documentation explicitly requires it for this build. Mine Little Pony is optional, not part of the minimum launch chain.
Build a repeatable sound test
Use a short lane containing stone, wood, dirt, grass, glass, and one block from a mod you actually play. Keep master volume, player volume, resource packs, output device, weather, and movement speed unchanged.
Listen for four different problems:
- no footsteps on every block;
- one material mapped to an obviously wrong sound;
- duplicate steps from another sound mod;
- a modded block falling back to a generic material.
The creator says modded blocks are inferred from their material or sound type, and unusual blocks can supply mappings through the project's documented system. That does not mean every modded block already has a perfect custom mapping.
Fix missing footsteps
Confirm Minecraft 26.2, the active loader, Presence Footsteps 1.13.3, and Fabric API. Check that the game is using the instance you edited. Then verify Minecraft's player-sound category and the operating system's output device before changing the mod.
If vanilla blocks remain silent, test the mod and Fabric API alone in a copied profile. Preserve the log and config before deleting anything. A missing required API and a muted sound category can produce different symptoms but both should be ruled out before reporting a mapping bug.
Fix the wrong sound on a modded block
Record the block's registry ID, source mod, active resource packs, and the sound you expected. Compare one vanilla block with the modded block at the same movement speed. If vanilla works, the useful question is whether the modded block exposes a standard material/sound type or needs a project-specific mapping.
Use the creator wiki for the current mapping format. Do not copy a config snippet from another Minecraft branch without checking the exact schema.
Fix duplicate or overpowering audio
Presence Footsteps handles footsteps. Ambient loops and room acoustics belong to other systems. Disable other footstep, ambient, and reverb mods in a copy, then restore them one at a time. Keep the same block lane and volume settings so the first returning conflict is visible.
A subjective “too loud” result should include master and player volume plus the output device. It is not evidence that the mod changes performance or that every headset will sound the same.
Update and rollback
Copy the working profile and any Presence Footsteps configuration or resource-pack mapping before changing Minecraft or the mod. Update one layer at a time. If a mapping changes, restore the old JAR and matching config together, then repeat the same sound lane.
Presence Footsteps FAQ
Does a server need Presence Footsteps?
No. The project lists it as client-side. The sound plays in the player's client.
Does the 26.2 file require Fabric API?
Yes. Fabric API is a required relation in the exact version record.
Do I need to install Kirin separately?
The exact 26.2 record lists Kirin as embedded. Do not add a duplicate unless current creator instructions change.
Will every modded block have a custom sound?
No guarantee is provided. The project can infer sounds from material types, while unusual blocks may need explicit mappings.
Creator, license, and sources
The current project is maintained by Sollace and credits the original Presence Footsteps lineage. Modrinth currently lists the project license as Polyform Shield 1.0; the old MineBrush LGPL label is stale and must be replaced. Use the creator project, source repository, and issue tracker. MineBrush has not played or recorded the selected build and does not copy creator audio or gallery media in this package.
