Minecraft Bedrock 26.40 is much bigger than a routine hotfix. It changes everyday play, accessibility, graphics, mobile menus, Realms, world storage and creator-facing schemas. It also includes a Drop 3 experimental section—and that separation matters. A feature appearing in the 26.40 changelog does not automatically mean it is active in every regular world.
The two lanes inside Bedrock 26.40
| Lane | Examples | How to treat it |
|---|---|---|
| Stable 26.40 changes | Crash fixes, accessibility, UI, graphics, multiplayer, Realms, items, storage and creator APIs. | Update a backup-protected world, then retest the exact behavior you use. |
| Drop 3 experiments | Dappled Forest, Abandoned Camps, Poplar, Wool Stairs and Slabs, Cushions and Straw Beds. | Use a separate labeled test world. Do not present them as guaranteed regular-world content in this release context. |
What players will notice in the stable update
Bedrock 26.40 contains a wide fix set, so the best route is to match the changelog to your own pain point:
- Accessibility: narration behavior was improved and a screen-distortion control was added for nausea and Nether-portal effects.
- Multiplayer: PlayStation local-account split-screen joining and Nintendo Switch guest joining received fixes. Servers also gained a self-repair attempt for some connection issues.
- Graphics: Texture Streaming, Vibrant Visuals, RTX-related rendering and several beam, texture and transparency problems were corrected. Some Android GPU cases received specific fixes, and supported-device information for Vibrant Visuals was updated.
- Items and combat: boats now take fewer hits to break and recover damage; arrow damage behavior changed; an older Book and Quill freeze was corrected.
- Realms: the Realms Hub gained save management and in-game pause-menu access, with additional permission and UI fixes.
- Mobile and storage: Android invite crashes, touch/UI issues, low-storage resource-pack handling and multiple general crashes were addressed.
This list is intentionally a player-first map, not a copy of every technical bullet. The official changelog is the complete source.
Drop 3 experiments: what is actually in the test lane
The Dappled Forest experiment introduces a forest type near cold biomes, with Poplar trees in red, orange and yellow leaf variants, shelf mushrooms and red shrubs. Experimental Abandoned Camps have biome-based variants and can contain loot containers. The experimental build set includes Wool Stairs and Slabs in 16 colors.
Cushions can be placed and sat on, come in 16 colors, and use matching Wool Slabs in their recipe. The 26.40 notes also record a known issue: Cushions were not generating in Abandoned Camps at that time, though they were available in Creative. Straw Beds are one-use sleep items that do not set spawn; the notes say they are destroyed when used in the Nether or End.
That sounds tempting for a long-running world, but experiments can change. Build the test around a disposable save, record the toggle state, and assume removal or migration may be messy until Mojang documents a stable route.
Known issue at the 26.40 release point
The official 26.40 page warns that arrows fired downward could become stuck in the player’s own hitbox. Do not describe that as fixed by 26.40. A later 26.44/45 changelog documents the related correction. This article preserves the release-day state so players do not confuse a later fix with the original build.
A clean update route
- Make a real backup. Keep it outside the only live copy of the world.
- Record the baseline. Note the build, device, active resource/behavior packs, experiments and graphics mode.
- Update the client. Confirm the displayed version after the store finishes.
- Open a low-stakes world first. Check controls, menus, one save and a full reopen.
- Retest your issue. Use the same scene and settings for a meaningful before/after comparison.
- Keep experiments separate. Create a dedicated world if you want to scout the Drop 3 features.
Notes for Android and add-on users
An “updated supported devices” line does not mean every Android device can enable Vibrant Visuals. Check whether the toggle exists on your actual device, then compare the same scene and settings. If invisible text, odd outlines or other graphics problems remain, record the GPU/device, build and graphics mode.
Creators should pay attention to stricter schemas for content authored at format 1.26.40 and later, plus the release of @minecraft/server 2.9.0. That does not make every older pack incompatible, but it does make an exact content-log and clean-world test more valuable. Preserve the old pack set, follow MineBrush’s add-on update route, and use the diagnostic checklist if the pack fails after the client update.
Evidence and source
MineBrush has not run a device, Realm, experiment or add-on compatibility matrix for this article. The factual release claims come from the official Minecraft Bedrock 26.40 changelog, rechecked on August 25, 2026.
